Heinz, the Blue-flamed Sword (『蒼炎剣』のハインツ), is a B-Class adventurer of commoner background with a Title.[5][6] He's the leader of the Five-colored Blades, that captured Darcia,[6] aiding the process that would lead to her death.[7]
Appearance[]
He's described as being a handsome, well-featured, strong-willed young man with blonde hair and blue eyes.[8]
Personality[]
He has a strong sense of justice, believing that any wall can be overcome as long as he has strength and bonds with companions that he can trust.[6] And has a strong belief in penance.[9]
He is sympathetic to parents protecting their children, which is shown by how he felt bad for cutting down a pregnant Goblin as a novice adventurer,[10] and later for the murder of Darcia protecting her Dhampir child, though he himself did not participate in her torture. He also refused a party invitation by Earl Palpapek, because he thought as the event as too cruel to be shared as a 'heroic tale'.[6]
He means well, but he's his own worst enemy as he seeks to tear down, at least in part, Alda's systematic campaign against Vida's races while at the same time wanting to be seen as a hero by that very same system. He also holds a glaring double standard when it concerns any conflict between the "human" races and Vida's races, best highlighted by his actions in the Hartner Duchy and Bellwood's Trial dungeon. When he's investigating the destruction of two cultivation villages, as reported by Lucas Hartner, his party comes into conflict with vampires under Ternecica, of Hihiryushukaka's murder cult. He does absolutely nothing in response to learning from said vampires that the duchy is nostrils deep in collusion with the cult until Vandalieu lures him into attacking Ternecia. On the other hand, when he learns that Vandalieu freed Titans that were illegally enslaved and abused in the duchy, by the duchy's own laws, and had been suffering said slavery for centuries, he gets angry at Vandalieu, condemning the dhampir for raising the local taxes.[11]
He is very hypocritical where it concerns his actions. To rescue Selen, he cuts down a group of mercenaries, with written orders from a local noble to kill her and collect her body-parts, as if they were nameless bandits, but when Vandalieu informs him that ghouls are a race of Vida, not a weird species of mutant undead, a lie the Church of Alda spreads through the adventurer's guild, he responds along the lines of "I thought so, but since the adventurer's guild puts up quests to go kill them for their body parts, we went and hunted them down anyway." Not to mention when he learned of Alda fanatics targeting Selen, he used her, his adopted daughter, as bait to lure them into a trap where he and his party spared no effort to disarm and capture them, politely marching them off to the local jail, pitying them for the fact that the fanatics involved were likely to face the death penalty for their crimes.
His most glaring and damning personality flaw is his utter inability to accept responsibility for the consequences of his actions, always downplaying his involvement or trying to shift the blame to factors beyond his control, if not both, keeping him from learning from his mistakes, dooming him to repeat them, as revealed in chapters 254-255 where it's revealed that, going purely by a hand-delivered note from a noble, he raided a temple, butchering countless merfolk and majin, to try and steal the Demon King's Mucus Gland, because the top priestess of the "evil cult" was the illegitimate daughter of said noble who didn't want to deal with blackmail or succession issues, forgetting that accepting a hand-delivered note from Baronet Bestero is how he wound up taking the quest to hunt down Darcia, and winding up in Vandalieu's cross-hairs.
Biography[]
When Heinz registered as an adventurer, he was approached by Riley, and the two formed a party together, which would later grow to become the Five-colored Blades. He was talented enough to be promoted to B-class in his teenage years, and was even bestowed a title,[10] gaining the social status of an honorary nobleman.[9] "Noblemen and merchants were frantic to form connections with Heinz (…). There were numerous talks of officer and specialist contracts and, best of all, he was approached by good women. Even the receptionist at the Adventurers’ Guild looked at him with moist eyes."[10]
He was 17 when the party was requested to hunt down a Dhampir,[10] though he didn't participate in the torture of Darcia. As he watched Darcia being burned at the stake without letting out a single scream, he began to doubt if she was truly a witch as he had been told, and to doubt Alda, the god that he had believed to be an embodiment of justice up until then and questioned what he should do.[6] Between this event and turning 21, he reached S-class.
He turned down Earl Palpapek’s offers and is now working in the Orbaume Kingdom.[6] There he is seen as a hero who is part of a peaceful faction. As penance for his part in the death of a woman protecting her Dhampir child. He spends no effort in saving Dhampir children’s lives. A young Dhampir named Selen is currently traveling with his group called Five-colored Blades.[?]
Summary[]
One of Vandalieu’s targets for revenge. While working in the Orbaume Kingdom, he has acknowledged that Alda’s peaceful faction is right and that Vida’s races should be accepted (as long as they are harmless to people).[9]
After going separate ways from the Green Wind Spear Riley, he moved to the Orbaume Kingdom, but he lost the Elf spirit mage Martie when his party challenged the Trial of Zakkart. His current party consists of two new members in Scout Edgar and the Shield-bearer female Dwarf Delizah, as well as the unarmed fighter Jennifer and Elf priestess Diana.[9]
He feels guilt over handing Darcia to High Priest Gordan, even if it was an adventurer’s request to do so. After much internal conflict, he converted to Alda’s peaceful faction, and now he is something of a leader of the faction. In doing so, he began protecting the Dhampir girl Selen.[?]
His objective as an adventurer is the complete clearing of Zakkart’s Trials, but things became complicated and he recently ended up going around trying to exterminate the Pure-breed Vampires who worship an evil god.[?]
He is not a reincarnated champion or the descendant of someone who came from another world; he is a natural-born genius, purely of Lambda origin. As an adventurer, he has an unstoppable sense of justice and idealistic ways of thinking, but he has the ability and charisma to make such ideals possible, or at least make others think that they are possible.[?]
He didn’t know that Darcia’s child survived, but he suspects that the Dhampir boy he saw in the city of Niarki (Vandalieu) is that child. He also suspects that Eleanora was involved in the incidents that occurred in the Hartner Duchy, so he is looking for her and her master, but he has not realized that her master is Vandalieu.[?]
Judging from his normal speech and actions, one could guess that he hates those who can create Undead, but that isn’t a hatred specifically directed at Vandalieu; it is a very normal thought as a believer of Alda. Incidentally, even Alda’s peaceful faction treats Undead as targets to be exterminated or purified; they do not believe that they can coexist with Undead. The act of creating Undead is treated as a sin that desecrates life and goes against the laws of life and death.[9]
After listening to Bellwood's life story and feeling his own sin, Heinz still maintains the position of dialogue with Van to give himself the opportunity.[?]
Powers and Abilities[]
In terms of ability, he is S-class. He has strength in battle rivaling the Mirg shield-nation’s hero of two hundred years ago, the Divine Spear of Ice Mikhail. Currently, thanks to training, he is able to lower the heroic spirit of Bellwood and support its power.[?]
Has the qualities for the Guider jobs, later obtained the Holy Guider Job.[12][13]
Heinz combined the light and life attributes to create a spell to counter Vandalieu's death-attribute magic.[14]
