Knochen is an Undead, serving as a pawn to Vandalieu. Created when the damaged spirits of Bone Bear, Bone Wolf, Bone Monkey and Bone Bird were merged.[1]

Appearance[]

When he first appeared as Knochen, he looked like a composite beast made up of four undead pawns.[2] As the story progressed, he grew larger and larger, incorporating bones, and was able to take the form of a building.[3][4] Eventually, he gained enough mass to take the place of the royal castle in the Orbaume Kingdom.[5]

Knochen can make some of the bones that make up him act as his alter ego(s).[3] The number that can be operated is growing and growing, finally enough to cover an army.[6]

Personality[]

Knochen is loyal to Vandalieu, and its favorite game is to have Vandalieu throw a frisbee for it to catch and then throw it back for him to go and fetch.[1] Despite becoming a new creature upon merging, it still retains it's memories and sentiments from its time as Bone Monkey, Bone Wolf, Bone Bear and Bone Bird respectively. As shown when it was genuinely happy about Darcia's resurrection.[?]

Background[]

Main article: Knochen/Biography

Following Ice Age's explosion upon defeating the Orichalcum Golem created by Vida, several of the undead skeletons were severely damaged.[?] Thus Vandalieu merged Bone Monkey, Bone Wolf, Bone Bear, Bone Bird, and other undead made around the same time as Bone Man. This resulted in the creation of Knochen, then a Rank 7 Bone Chimera.[1]

Abilities[]

As a Bone Fort, he became a mobile fortress of bones and skeletons that can be used for transportation as well as a staging area in enemy territory, and is very much capable of destroying the country and seizing its capital.[?]

After becoming a Bone Fort he was able to use some of its bones to produce furniture such as chairs, tables and beds.[7]

Trivia[]

  • The name Knochen is German for bone.[1][8]
  • In the web novel, Bone Monkey first appeared as a named character in chapter 1, whereas the others were unnamed. Later Bone Wolf, Bone Bear and Bone Bird were named in chapter 5. In the manga, this happened between chapter 4 and chapter 7.
  • Knochen consists of several different undead animals: Bone Monkey, Bone Wolf, Bone Bear, Bone Bird, Bone Boar, Bone Rabbit, Bone Goblin, Bone Beasts, Phantom Bird, etc.[?]
  • It frequently flies in the skies above Talosheim, but apparently Vandalieu is riding inside around one in ten times[9]
