Merfolk is a race living in the sea, and are descendants of Tristan and Vida.[1]

Appearance[]

According to myth, they were immortal creatures who cried tears made of gemstones. However, this was merely superstition.[1]

Merfolk were a half-human, half-fish race. "There are large individual differences in their fish-like traits; it is rare, but there are apparently angler-fish-type Merfolk… Master was apparently mistaken for one when he used the Demon King’s luminescent organs for illumination in the sea." As a race, they have beautiful voices.[1]

Although they are not related to any evil gods, they are often mistaken as a race originating from monsters, much like drakonids.[1]

Temperament[]

Their lifestyles are very different from humans. They have a long history of being persecuted by humans, but since they could easily evade human pursuers, they had apparently not suffered much real harm.[1]

"There are males as well as females, and their personalities vary greatly. However, they are apparently instinctively attracted to shining objects in the sea."[1]

Habitat[]

Merfolk can inhabit both shallow waters and deep oceans, and live in a completely different environment from humans. Their lower bodies impose limits on the environments they can traverse, however they can gain human legs using a special medicine or magic items, the manufacturing method of which is handed down from generation to generation.[1]

Abilities[]

As one of the races that did not originate from monsters, merfolk do not possess ranks.[1]

As adventurers, they are formidable maritime combatants. "It would be difficult to survive a battle against hostile Merfolk in the ocean."[1]

Reproduction[]

Merfolk have a lifespan of 200 years. They spend about 15 years to mature into adulthood, after which they stop aging physically at a certain point and spend the rest of their lives with that appearance.[1]

History[]

The merfolk were born to Vida and Tristan, however because of their semi-humanoid appearances resembling monsters, they were often subjected to persecution.[1]

Doraneza’s ancestors failed to escape the region within the Boundary Mountain Range, so they wandered the seas until they came across Marisjafar, who became their guardian deity. In the years closer to the present day, they followed him to Gartland. "Thanks to the Merfolk, it became easier to cull the monsters emerging from the devil's nest inside the underground lake, and those in Gartland acquired information regarding events on the Bahn Gaia Continent." Though this did not include information regarding Vida's faction that resided in the Warhammer's handle, "it was enough to make the gods suspect that something big would happen within the next ten years."[2]
