Valen was the father of Vandalieu and the lover of Darcia. He was a subordinate vampire of the Pure-Breed Vampire Gubamon that worshiped Hihiryushukaka, the Evil God of Joyful Life, but was executed for conceiving a child with Darcia.

Background[]
Valen has told Darcia he used to be an ordinary human, a simple thug from the slums. Upon becoming a subordinate vampire, the only thing special about him was his sunlight resistance, making his pure-breed master value him highly. He was often ordered to do various tasks in society. During one of the instances where he was carrying out his master bidding, gathering information, he approached Darcia and they fell in love. However, Darcia's pregnancy infuriated Valen's master, who belonged to the vampires who worshipped an evil god. To escape execution, the two of them eloped in the safety of sunlight, however running away while protecting a pregnant woman was no easy feat. While on the run, Valen suggested they decide on a name for the baby beforehand, so that they could shout their name the moment they're born. They agreed on using half of both their names. If a girl, Darcia proposed they name her Varcia, while if a boy, Valen proposed Vandalieu. As they entered a town, clouds gathered and it began to rain, allowing their pursuers to come out of hiding. He told her to run, while he held off the three vampires, sacrificing himself to protect his unborn child.[1] After his death, his body had holy water poured on it to purify the spirit and prevent him from being resurrected.[?]

Valen's Sunlight Resistance
Valen was an ordinary subordinate vampire, except for an unique trait that made him resistant to the sun. This sunlight resistance made him more resistant to the sunlight than even humans.[?]
Valen was noted by Darcia to have been a master of close-quarters combat and specialized in using his claws. He was also not particularly strong for his age, other than that he was only able to cast simple spells.[?]
